PALMER CREATES A PREMIER LEAGUE HISTORY
Palmer Makes History at Chelsea
Cole Palmer being compared to legendary Premier League forwards Dennis Bergkamp and Robin van Persie is a notable accolade.
He was likened to both after his record-breaking performance in Saturday’s 4-2 victory against Brighton at Stamford Bridge.
The 22-year-old scored all four goals in the first half of the match, marking the first time this has been accomplished in the Premier League.
Palmer also had one goal disallowed and struck the woodwork, as Brighton struggled to contain him.
“He has a bit of finesse, reminiscent of Bergkamp and Van Persie, and they were exceptional players,” remarked former England and Arsenal forward Theo Walcott after the game.
Bergkamp is a Premier League Hall of Famer and an Arsenal legend who notched 87 goals and provided 94 assists in 315 league appearances, winning three top-flight titles over 11 seasons.
His fellow Dutchman Van Persie excelled at Arsenal during an eight-year tenure before securing the 2012-13 Premier League title with Manchester United.
Walcott expressed he had been “speechless” witnessing Palmer’s performance.
“He has developed into a key player at Chelsea and is the focal point of the team,” said Walcott. “You cannot exclude him from any team, including England.
He is exceptionally talented, and he will command such respect that other players will be in awe of him. ” If he maintains this performance, he will become a Premier League legend.
Former Manchester City defender Micah Richards remarked on BBC Match of the Day: “When he scored 22 goals last season, we asked: could he do it again? We don’t discuss his movement enough; the timing of his runs is exceptional. ” Everything he does is executed with an effortless quality.
“In terms of football intelligence, he is significantly ahead of his peers, a true pleasure to observe. He possesses everything. When you become the main man, you will be recognized by two individuals, yet he continues to perform.”
” Former England striker Gary Lineker, presenter of Match of the Day, commented: “Every time I see him, he takes my breath away. ” an exceptional footballer.
“among all the talented players in England, he may be the best of them all.
“however, the Blues player had his sights set on greater achievements.
Palmer stated on BBC Radio 5 Live: “when I missed the first opportunity, I was disappointed, but given their playing style and the high defensive line, we knew we would have more opportunities. I should have had five or six.
“I strive to play each game to the best of my ability and aim to deliver performances like that.
“”[Bergkamp] is a legend of the Premier League, but I didn’t really watch him. ” He is a top player, but thank you, Theo Walcott.
